Finding connection on the water
Contents
Recovery is not only about what happens in the therapy room. At Ibiza Calm, we also create opportunities for clients to experience different environments, develop practical skills, and connect with one another outside the residential setting. These experiences are an important part of learning how to communicate, build trust and work together.
One of the ways we do this is by taking clients out on the water.
Working together
Being on a boat creates a very different dynamic from being at home or in a therapy session. There are practical things to navigate, decisions to make and situations where communication and cooperation naturally become important.
For clients, this can provide an opportunity to practise skills that are central to recovery: listening to others, expressing themselves clearly, taking responsibility, asking for help, and finding ways to work together.
It can also offer a chance to experience connection without the focus being solely on treatment.
A different perspective
Time away from the residential environment can be valuable in its own right. A change of surroundings can encourage people to step outside familiar routines and experience themselves and others in a different way.
Sharing an activity, enjoying the sea, and working together towards a common goal can create moments of conversation and connection that develop naturally.
These experiences are not intended to replace clinical therapy. Instead, they complement the therapeutic programme by giving clients opportunities to put some of the skills they are developing into practice.
For people who may have spent a long time feeling disconnected from others, or whose relationships have been affected by addiction or mental health difficulties, learning to communicate and participate as part of a group can be an important part of rebuilding confidence and connection.
Recovery in real life
Successful long term recovery is about more than what happens during a scheduled therapy session. It is about building a strong foundation for lasting recovery and developing the skills and confidence to navigate everyday life, relationships and experiences differently.
Taking clients out on the water gives them an opportunity to practise some of those skills in a relaxed and very different environment, while also enjoying everything that Ibiza has to offer.
It is another example of how our programmes look beyond the treatment room, creating opportunities for clients to learn, connect and experience recovery together.
